About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the ST-IC-WJMW99 HQ US ARMY SOUTH. Serves as the Personnel Security Specialist for US Army South/6th Army, Fort Sam Houston Texas.

Duties

Reviews request for security clearances, interviews nominees, applies regulations regarding the type of personnel security investigations needed and requests investigations from the appropriate organization. Coordinates with Access Control personnel to validate and ensure security clearance information of visiting personnel is on file. Gathers background information and statistics through research of regulations and other documents. Serves as the Personnel Security Specialist for US Army South/6th Army, Fort Sam Houston Texas. Provides interpretative advice to the Security Managers, Commanders and the US Army South Staff.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
• In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
• Employee is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with access to sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
• Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) will be required up to 25% of the work schedule.

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. OR A Master's Degree that is closely related to the position. Closely Related constitutes a degree which has educated the student in pertinent, specific position-related subject matter allowing the student to develop knowledge and abilities directly applicable to the position being filled such as National Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations/Foreign Affairs, Geography, Security Management/Administrations, Criminal Justice, Psychology, History, or Law. OR A Master's Degree or Law Degree (LLB or JD) that is supplemented by at least 15 semester hours or 22 quarters hours that are closely related to the position. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
