This position is located at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
Duties
This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by AFGE. Please note that as provided for in the AFGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles.
The Plumbing Worker performs a variety of duties associated with the repair and operations of the irrigation system at the Tahoma National Cemetery. Performs maintenance, repairs, overhaul, layout, and installation of utility systems such as water treatment and purification, irrigation - manual, automatic and computerized; and drainage. Coordinates, monitors and schedules the operation of the entire water management system. Coordinates with watering partners in managing reclaimed water used for irrigation systems. Installs and repairs plumbing systems and is expected to respond to system emergencies during non-duty hours.
Perform duties of Cemetery Caretaker, on an 'as-needed' basis, as determined by the Foreman to meet the operational needs of the cemetery. Incumbent will occasionally set and align headstones, perform interment functions and complete other duties as assigned- to include operating all required equipment necessary to complete the assigned work.
Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

Your background must demonstrate work involved in the plumbing trade with experience specific to the maintenance and operation of in-ground irrigation systems preferred.

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: Physical demands on the incumbent consists of walking, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, pushing, pulling, tugging, and climbing. Must be able to lift 50-pounds (Incumbent is expected to request assistance whenever performing tasks that require lifting more than 50-pounds). Must be able to walk in all types of terrain and soil conditions.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outdoors. Incumbent is subject to discomfort from working in unnatural positions for long periods in a variety of weather conditions. Must work under stress and strain in dust, dirt, mud, water, and be exposed to foul odors and equipment noises. Incumbent is exposed to occupational injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, shock, vibrations, and dust, as well as other potential hazards working with machinery, saws, and electrical and/or test equipment while performing duties of this position.
