This position is located at the Facility Mngmt Div. of Fire Island National Seashore, which is characterized by a highly diversified fleet infrastructure, geographically dispersed visitor/resource venues, and complicated utility systems dispersed over multiple developed areas. The purpose of the position is to apply a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to layout, install, align, overhaul, repair, and maintain numerous types of complex marine machinery, equipment, and systems.

Duties

Maintains and repairs internal combustion engines (gasoline and diesel) and related mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Performs preventive and cyclic maintenance as well as repairs on all outboards. Coordinates and schedules repairs and maintenance on all park vessels. Provides technical expertise and support to other park employees for minor vessel repairs. Troubleshoots mechanical operating problems of vessels varying from 25HP-300H outboard engines and up to 375HP inboard diesel engines, including inboard/outboard and straight drive units. Overhauls and/or rebuilds mechanical systems that include, but are not limited to, ignition systems, fuel injectors and fuel systems, exhaust systems, and transmissions to manufacturer specifications. Operates heavy equipment including bucket loader, forklift, and other heavy equipment used for moving and storing materials, including excavation and grading. Operates 4x4 vehicles and park vessels for transportation and logistical support. Coordinates and is responsible for all 60' barge operations, including crew safety and oversight during voyage. Barge activities include solid waste disposal, delivery of fuel oil, equipment transport, as well as delivering supplies and materials to the island. Assists in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment, including 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, tractors, lawn equipment, and small pumps and generators. Welds and fabricates various steel and aluminum components in repair of vessels, equipment and facilities.
