The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita Kansas is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a temporary detail assignment (not to exceed 120 days) Patient Services Assistant (Office Automation) position located in our Social Work department.

The incumbent of this position performs a wide variety of administrative duties and transactions in support of Social Work Service. Duties include but not limited to:

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of public laws, rules, requirements and skill in applying regulations and procedures; Working knowledge of current editions of the International Classification of Diseases, ICD-9/10-CM; Extensive knowledge of medical terminology to complete various documents, letters, and forms; thorough knowledge of the procedures, practices, rules, regulations, policies, and concepts involved in Veteran's Benefits in order to answer questions, resolve problems, and provide advice; Working knowledge of the computer; Knowledge of internal organization of Veterans' records and relationship of their parts in order to extract administrative and medical conditions; Knowledge of state and County directives pertaining to deaths. If ALL of the required specialized experience noted above is not clearly demonstrated in the applicants resume, the applicant will be found as not meeting the specialized experience requirements. B. My experience is not reflected in the above statement. Typing requirement. In addition to meeting the required specialized experience, applicants for this position must show possession of the following typing proficiency. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Proficiency skills of self-certified applicants may be verified by administering the appropriate performance test. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and ManagementCommunicationsComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Partnering Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary although some walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and carrying loads weighing up to 20 pounds is required.
