This position is located in the Mid-Atlantic Laboratory, Largo, MD The incumbent will perform the following duties: -Provides administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. -Makes major operational decisions relating to all laboratory programs. -Provides overall supervision to laboratory personnel and support members. -Serves as expert consultant in planning, monitoring, and administering chemistry projects of national and international significance. -Provides technical insight into the development and management of policies, procedures, and operational schedules necessary for new systems and functions.

• Successful completion of a one-year supervisory probationary period is required (unless already completed)
• Successful completion of the mandatory Basic Forensic Chemist Course.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following qualification requirements: (A). Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR (B). Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 Federal grade level in performing a full range of duties to include managing a laboratory system quality assurance program; developing policies, programs and objectives for forensic science services; and overseeing administrative areas, including financial/operating plan development, data system management and personnel management. Education

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
