The position is located under Division of Clinical Services, Behavioral Health Branch at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to function as a part of the Adult Psychiatry Department, but also participate in adolescent and family referrals of the Child Psychiatry Department.
Duties
Provides a full range psychological services including evaluation, diagnosis, referral, psychotherapy, and specialized treatment modalities for mental health problems of adults, adolescents, and families.
Administers psychological tests to adolescents and adults including intelligence, projective, organicity, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), etc. tests. - Provides psychotherapy services using a variety of psycho-therapeutic approaches including, but not restricted to, individual, psychodynamic, group, family, cognitive -behavioral biofeedback, and hypnosis.
Provides and coordinates crisis intervention services in relation to physical and/or sexual abuse, suicide, and other serious emergencies.
Experienced in working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) problems in general.
Provides consultation to a wide variety of hospital staff about mental health related matters.
In the community consults with schools, courts, state social services, a center for multi-handicapped adults, and other organizations to assess problems, survey resources, and explore alternative solutions to mental health issues.
Supervises staff in evaluative and psychotherapeutic work as well as research. Assists program director in establishing goals and guidelines for the optimal functioning of the adult team in particular, with overlap in the child team, and assists in the supervision of the adult team.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below:
Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: work as a psychologist in a mental health setting clinic or hospital while providing psychological evaluations, delivering therapeutic mental health treatment modalities for patients. Provide consultation, collaboration and follow up. Assist and refer patients with acute, chronic or severe mental illnesses and dual diagnosis patient populations. Use an electronic health records for patients.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Must possess an active, current, unrestricted state license as a Clinical Psychologist. Attach copy to application or document on resume/CV. License will be verified before referral.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
