This position is located in the White Earth Health Center in Ogema, MN. The purpose of this position is to perform routine and advanced prophylactic and preventive dental procedures in the treatment of routine and medically and dentally complex patients. This position reports to the Supervisory Dentist or designee.
Duties
Examines patients' teeth and surrounding tissues, records history, plans treatments and appointments in accordance with existing conditions.
Performs oral prophylaxis and provides therapeutic care using a variety of scalers and ultrasonic equipment; includes performing deep scaling, root planning and subgingival curettage, taking intraoral impressions for the preparation of study models, smoothing and polishing rough edges of restorations, placing temporary crowns or restorations.
Provides dental hygiene and therapeutic instruction to patients, both individually and in groups, in the home care phase of treatment, adapting instructions, oral hygiene aids and techniques such as use of interproximal brushes, bridge threaders, and disclosing agents.
Takes, develops and interprets intraoral and extra oral radiographs.
Maintains patient records of treatment.
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Licensure: Applicants for all grade levels and specializations must be currently licensed to practice as dental hygienists in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
NOTE: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
GS-07: One (1) year of specialized experience to at least the GS-06 grade level.
Specialized experience for the GS-07 include: Examine, assess and determine if systemic conditions are present and plan treatment; perform oral prophylaxis and provide therapeutic care, perform deep scaling, root planning and sub-gingival curettage, temporary fillings and administer local anesthesia, place and remove rubber dams and apply sealant; provide oral health education services to individuals and groups; take, develop, and interpret intraoral and extra-oral X-Rays.
GS-08: One (1) year of specialized experience to at least the GS-07 grade level.
Specialized experience for the GS-08 include: Plan and evaluate preventive health programs for patients; provide oral health education services to individuals; perform advanced oral prophylactic, therapeutic and preventive procedures in cases of periodontal diseases or inflammation on patients with other medical or dental problems; administer local anesthesia; place temporary fillings, finish amalgam restoration; take, develop, and interpret x-rays; take and pour impressions for casts, remove sutures.
Specialized Experience Defined --Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
