This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as Certified Nurse Practitioner at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).

Duties

Perform applicant physical examinations and assists with applicant medical processing at the MEPS stations. Provide basic life support in emergency situations to stabilize applicants while waiting for outside emergency services. Perform physical inspections of previously qualified applicants to document their status for meeting standards. Assist the MEPS Chief Medical Officer.

Requirements

• You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• Successful completion of an approved Masters degree in a Nurse Practitioner education program.
• Two (2) years of experience in primary care, providing care to adults and children.
• Possesses a current, active, valid, and unrestricted license as a registered nurse and/or APN as required by the state issuing the license.
• Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
• Occasionally may be required to work on Saturdays and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
• May require up to 25% temporary duty travel to other MEPS to cover staffing shortages.
• Must be familiar with computer peripherals and associated software as needed to accomplish the mission.
• Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System with 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

Licensure/Certification: Basic Requirement for Nurse Practitioner: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Education for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Note: Advanced Practice Nurses may receive certification which will be considered to meet the requirement to be licensed/registered. Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes advising management on professional and medical technical aspects of conducting the medical examination; ensuring compliance of OSHA requirements and Privacy Act data protection standards; maintaining a medical library in accordance with directives; performing applicant medical prescreening as directed by the Chief Medical Officer; recognizing normal and abnormal findings and interpreting medical documentation, special screening and selecting laboratory findings.. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
