About the Position: This position is located with the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Fort Stewart, GA. A one-time recruitment incentive of $10,000 is authorized.

Duties

Serves as a court reporter providing verbatim reporting of military Courts-Martial proceedings for official record as well as other informal boards. Coordinates and maintains all Circuit Judge Reports (CJR) / Court-Martial Case Reports (CMCR), Receives, logs and reviews for completeness and accuracy all Records of Trial. Provides guidance on the specifics of the proceedings to the court reporters. Performs the clerical functions related to the military court system at Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, and Fort Gordon, Georgia. Based on trial dates, distributes work to court reporters.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Temporary duty travel of 10% may be requried.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing verbatim reporting of military Courts-Martial proceedings; establishes overall goals, objectives, distributes and balances workload among military and civilian court; coordinates cases with Reserve Military Judges ensuring all court documents and court dates and times are in compliance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailClericalTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
