This position provides Information Technology support to the Department of Clinical Research Informatics, Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH is the principal biomedical research institution of the Federal Government. The Clinical Center is the research hospital responsible for ensuring the highest possible level of medical care for research subjects of the NIH.

Duties

Evaluating, planning, developing, implementing, and supporting hosting infrastructure technologies, especially in the hosting of enterprise-class systems and storage area networks (SANs). Participating in the investigation of new and improved server, storage, software, advanced file system and other hosting technologies and/or services and recommends adoption of developments, enhancing the effectiveness of the services being provided. Configuring, building, and installing upgrades to the Windows operating system and related utilities. Serving as a technical consultant to customers at in support of application systems hosted on the organization's servers. Responding to user inquiries and problem reports regarding supported applications Conducting reviews of network border and application specific firewall rule sets on firewall appliances and/or blades to ensure that they provide a robust level of security to all hosted applications and services. Consulting with vendors' sales and field service personnel to troubleshoot and resolve problems. Serving as a technical expert on network monitoring tools used to monitor and proactively analyze network activity, examine traffic flow, detect unauthorized activity, and determine sources of routing issues. Proposing, designing, implementing, and testing modifications to the system configurations which significantly enhance functionality and provide new, expanded, or enhanced services. Providing expert consultation, guidance, and leadership to other specialists on enterprise operating systems, server and storage hardware, application network architecture and secure infrastructures. Managing, configuring, and administering Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops in a mission critical 24x7 enterprise environment.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • This position requires the incumbent to be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in such places as research facilities.
  • This position may require the incumbent to carry light items such as papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an IT Specialist (Customer Support), GS-2210 position at the GS-13 level, you must possess: IT related experience demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates that I possess each of the following four competencies: 1. Attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; 4. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. And You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector in the IT field or through performing the following types of tasks: serving as an advisor to specialists and managers in developing and implementing hosting infrastructure technologies; reviewing and evaluating hosted applications' security requirements; building and installing upgrades to the Windows operating system and related utilities; serving as a technical consultant to customers in support of application systems hosted on an organization's servers, diagnosing causes of complex critical systems administration problems, and devising innovative solutions for their resolution; and analyzing server performance data and recommending changes/improvements as necessary.
