Duties
Will receive and review prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary.
Enter prescriptions into outpatient computer system, reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and for duplicate orders.
Responsible for data entry for Pharmacy Intervention Database on routine basis. Ensures correctness and completeness of entries from a variety of choices.
Assist in processing non-formulary drug requests as directed. Assists in preparation of reports using word processing and graphics software.
Assist clinical pharmacist in data collection for Drug Use Evaluations and for Medication Use Indicators for patients (drug level monitoring, serum creatinine monitoring, etc.) as assigned.
Answer routine inquiries from physicians, nurses and other staff on availability of specific items, stocked strengths and available forms of medications.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Pharmacy Technician at the GS 06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes filling prescriptions, distributing pharmaceuticals, and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
