About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. We provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support.
Duties
Construct, repair, and calibrate all types of special purpose tools, for any tooling need.
Design tools and determines shop routing sequence for all tools that require specialized work.
Perform hardness and conductivity testing to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys. Perform hardness testing to verify hardness of metals and certain plastics.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- Required to obtain and maintain hardness and conductivity testing training to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys and to perform hardness testing to verify hardness of metals and certain plastics within 6 months of training.

Set up and operate conventional machine tools and attachments. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Toolmaker, WG-12 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Toolmaker duties. Use MOLDS, designs and fabricates, modifies and repairs molds used for shaping rubber, plastic and other material. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Toolmaker, WG-13 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common duties that include a working knowledge of heat treatment procedures and equipment and various other steels and material, such as cast iron, aluminum, magnesium, copper, brass, bronze, lead, stainless steels, carbide, plastic, rubber, nylon, plexiglass, cork, phynolic, wood, etc. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Performance of duties requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching. Lifts machine parts, attachments and work-pieces weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts and other employees in shop are available to assist with heavier items.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works indoors under normal shop conditions of dust, dirt, fumes and noise. There is danger to eyes and skin from hot chips, grinding particles and coolants; to lungs from grinding dust; and to hands, and body from moving machines. Works almost continuously in standing position with considerable stooping and reaching. Work requires use of personal protective, equipment such as, but not limited to, half/full face respirators, air pack, dusk masks, safety glasses, and shoes appropriate o the work performed. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective equipment.
