About the Position: Fort Cavazos rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The nearby lakes, Belton and Stillhouse, offer year round outdoor recreation activities.

Duties

Administer rights to a suspect when apprehending. Collect and safeguard confiscated items and evidence. Complete forms to document incidents, obtain warrants, or issue citations in accordance with set laws and policies. Operate a patrol vehicle in emergency situations. Operate police-equipped vehicle to conduct high speed chases of suspects. Ensure the handling and proper use of various types of small arms weapons.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must meet all other mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program."
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must take and pass an initial Physical Agility Test (PAT) and annually thereafter.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must meet all requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This position requires the incumbent to sign a DA Form 5019, acknowledging periodic random drug testing requirements is mandatory prior to being placed into the position.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • The positions hours of work are subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent will be required to successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within 6 months upon initial assignment to law enforcement duties and maintain certification.
  • Incumbent must able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
