This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System, Engineering Service, Maintenance and Operations (M&O), Electrical Shop. The incumbent will be responsible for the installation, modification, troubleshooting, servicing and maintenance of electrical equipment, circuits, and all associated devices, with oversite of high voltage equipment.
Duties
Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, end equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential buildings.

Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, operate and test the emergency power distribution system consisting of seven generators, ranging from, 150kw to 450kw (not including the CHP) 25 transfer switches, 480-volt switchgear, 26-volt dc batteries and chargers, fuel pumps and day tanks and oil filled transformers, 480 volt switchgear, dry transformers and breaker panel boards, 208/120 volt transformers and breaker panels, main switchgear batteries 120v. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, operate, and test 4160-volt switches or consisting of transformer, and air vacuumed breakers.
Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
Interpret and apply the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and to use trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factor, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduits, gutters, and cable· trays.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent repairs, installs fixtures, and troubleshoots from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable incumbents. Frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to up to 50 pounds occasionally, they lift or move with assistance heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
Work is performed both inside and outside. Incumbent sometimes is required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding at heights of 30 or more feet; and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. Occasionally the incumbent is exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary device, such as electrical motors. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
The electrician will frequently work in areas such as mechanical spaces with steam systems, hot and chilled water. systems, and air handling units. Additionally, the incumbent will work on rooftops, crawl spaces, attics, unconditioned spaces, and on underground utilities. The incumbent will also be working around patients and clinical staff and shall be cognizant that the staff and patients are his/her customers and shall conduct him/herself accordingly. While working around staff and patients, the incumbent shall be familiar with interim life safety measures and have the ability to implement such measures when required.
