About the Position: This is a PERMANENT Supervisory Paralegal Specialist position with the U.S. Army Training Center, 165th Infantry Brigade located at Fort Jackson, SC. ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND OPM PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK".

Duties

Serves as the Senior Paralegal Specialist in the Legal Branch within a Basic Combat Training Brigade at the U.S. Army Training Center (USATC), Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Researches and analyzes facts surrounding administrative actions to ensure discharge or adverse personnel actions meet regulatory requirements and the rights of the Soldier are upheld. Gathers and Interprets data from government agencies, civilians, attorneys, courts, and private organizations for use in courts-martial, Article 32 hearings, chapter elimination boards, and civilian employee misconduct actions. Evaluates court-martial case files for accuracy of charges and specifications in accordance with the Manual for Courts-Martial, factual deficiencies, potential witnesses. Performs supervisory and administrative duties relating to the Legal personnel. Plans and carry out assignments and coordinates activities with professional legal staff of the agency, Commanders, and with staff of other Federal activities.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized which may include researching legal issues pertaining to military justices, administrative law or reports of investigation, analyzing and evaluating various files such as court-martial cases, administrative board cases, commander's inquiries, and reports of investigation and civil misconduct actions, preparing and collecting evidence and exhibits, preparing various legal document and reports, instructing employees on work and administrative matter, setting employee standards for performance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as:Paralegal Studies, Law, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Organizational AwarenessPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
