Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for Typical work assignments will include: Discussing relevant facts, legal issues, and case strategy with attorneys; Researching and analyzing case facts, applicable points of law, and producing court motions; Completing background work required and obtaining necessary reports and recordings; Providing draft pleadings to attorneys for review and filing; Providing a variety of litigation support services by researching, interpreting, and applying a body of law; Reviewing and editing district court legal pleadings and appellate briefs; and Applying proper format, style, and correct citations in compliance with the rules of the U.S. District Court, Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal Rules of Criminal Appellate Procedures. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

Specialized experience: To qualify for the GS-12 position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is defined as conducting legal research and writing to perform extensive and thorough research; understanding, analyzing, and evaluating facts and legal issues; applying applicable laws, regulations, and policies; exercising independent judgment to clearly present complex and interrelated concepts and ideas without guidance or instruction; utilizing legal techniques to analyze issues of fact and law to summarize case decisions, evaluate the applicability of precedents, draft briefs, and other litigation papers; and presenting facts and legal arguments in a logical, lucid, and persuasive manner. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
