The position is responsible for operating copier/duplicating equipment requiring a knowledge of the operating characteristics of the equipment and controls an automatically controlled duplication. This position also performs work related to the processing of incoming or outgoing mail and working with UPS World Ship computers shipping items.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Sets up, operates, and adjusts an automatically controlled duplicator which operates in conjunction with an on-line electrostatic image (paper) maker and an on-line sorter to reproduce readable copy of single or multiple page documents in short runs. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions, operating problems, and performs corrective adjustments as necessary. Operates copier/duplicator equipment on an "as-time-permits" basis. Reviews work requests for duplication accordance with guidelines to determine if the work can be performed in the copy center. Maintains accurate production records for equipment operated. Performs operator maintenance such as daily clean up, lubrication, changing blankets and wicks, checking and replenishing levels of ink, developer. This position supports mail and distribution operations. Sorts all incoming and outgoing mail, routing incoming mail by general subject matter to approximately 150 delivery points within an organization concerned with the administration of a number of distinct professional, technical, scientific, and administrative programs. The position recognizes problems within the unit and based upon established procedures and regulations, recommends improved procedures and methods to increase efficiency to senior staff. Locates and moves material for shipment and verifies or prepares shipping documents through the UPS World Ship computer. The position processes incoming materials. Reviews incoming miscellaneous materials including mail, publications, directives, etc. Performs presort into action and information categories; reads action material and routes non-control items to appropriate unit or units by technical subject-matter content, determines if control is needed and prepares control and routing sheet for correspondence requiring reply or action. Determines full routing, number of copies required, and assigns due date in consideration of amount of time allowed by originator for reply. Maintains suspense date for replies and follows up on over-due correspondence. The position routes materials. The position routes non-controlled materials to unit or units by address, office symbol, organization numeric code, or by subject-matter content. Reads and classifies materials, determining which office (or offices) has cognizance over the subject matter, and whether or not the subject is covered by established policy or decision or refers to senior staff. Subject matter of the materials is varied and complex in that they may relate to any one or combination of subheadings within the general subjects of personnel, supply and material, and disbursing. Reads and routes a large amount of general mail from private citizens and organizations requesting information on a wide range of information from the various serviced organizations. The position processes outgoing materials. The position performs various related clerical duties such as facing, sacking, bundling, wrapping of outgoing materials, sorting bulk mail from post office, and performing such additional mail handling tasks as rerouting misdirected mail, date stamping, counting mail, screening for priority items, preparing routing and control forms, maintaining an up-to-date directory by name, room and telephone number, organization, and forwarding address for use in work assignment. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/02/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have one year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years of education above high school. (Transcripts are required) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of general experience and education, that the total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Planning and Evaluating Manages and Organizes Information Organization Stewardship Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Physical Requirements: Work requires recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds; carrying less than 50 pounds; straight pulling; pushing; use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing; repeated bending, standing stooping; both legs required.
