You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN in the Production Division of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will complete routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on electric power control equipment, distribution lines, or electric-generating equipment. You will complete inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical distribution systems. You will test and troubleshoot power distribution systems based on grounded and ungrounded electrical system theory. You will follow drawings or diagrams to perform work on circuits, distribution networks, or equipment interconnections.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be able to wear a respirator and be respirator qualified.
  • You must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain applicable licenses to drive trucks with gross weight ratings of up to 10,000 pounds.
  • You may be required to carry a portable radio or pager and maintain contact with supervisor or customer service center at all times.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

On a part-time basis, employee may perform duties as a team leader. Team leader duties include: assigning daily work; answering questions of other workers about procedures, policies, and service or maintenance tickets; ensuring tools, materials, plans, blueprints, etc. are available; reporting problems, work status and work progress to supervisor(s); demonstrating proper work methods and practices. Drives trucks with gross vehicle weight ratings of up to 10,000 pounds to transport materials and equipment to the worksite. Loads and unloads materials and equipment. Employee will be required to obtain and maintain applicable licenses. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The employee frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from workers. Works aloft on poles, at ground level, and in ground trenches or manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing and standing for long periods. Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. At times, works in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs and body are needed to perform tasks.
