Job opening: PIPEFITTER

Salary: $29 - 34 per hour

You will serve as a Pipefitter in the Production Division, Public Works Department, NSA Mechanicsburg, of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic.

Duties

You will interpret pipefitting assignments (e.g., work orders, building plans, blueprints) to meet workload requirements. You will make pressure joints (e.g., threaded, flanged welded, flange bolted, brazed, soldered, silver brazed) to install piping sections. You will calculate pipe, joint, or valve sizes needed to support pressures of systems. You will inspect and test systems for damage, leaks, and blockages in lines, expansion joints, valves and traps. You will determine causes of problems and recommend corrective action on pipefitting work.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Assisting in installing, modifying, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing industrial or domestic high-temperature water and high-pressure piping systems and equipment; 2) Assisting with planning, laying out and installing piping systems and equipment from blueprints, sketches, etc.; 3) Assisting with performing soft soldering and silver brazing with an oxyacetylene torch. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
