Job opening: WOOD WORKER

Salary: $26 - 31 per hour

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and child care available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Receive assignments orally or through work orders from their supervisor. Designs, plans, builds, and constructs custom shipping, supply, and storage containers for items of irregular size and shape. Make technical judgments based on their knowledge of specialized woodworking techniques withing the framework of accepted practices and general instructions. Determine or recommend the extent of repairs required and construction alterations necessary to modify or rework containers. Block and brace, and secure uncrated, un-containerized equipment, which is sensitive, hazardous, or unusually large or heavy, and is frequently unbalanced or fragile. Independently determine the material, containers and devices needed to prepare the full range of standard and specialized materials and equipment for custom packing, shipment, or storage.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-placement medical examinations.
  • Temporary Duty Travel, TDY may be required up to 5% of the time.
  • This position requires to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires obtaining and maintaining a Forklift Operators Permit up to 15,000 lb. capacity.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) WOOD WORKER ~ without more than normal supervision. I can determine or recommend the extent of repairs required and construction alterations necessary to modify or rework containers. Experience in providing technical guidance to lower level workers in the operation of power equipment and in the construction of specialized and standard containers and storage items. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Performs heavy, strenuous and tiring work for extended periods. Incumbent continuously lifts, carries, positions, holds and uses tools, equipment and materials weighing up to 44 lbs. and moves heavier items using tools, MHE or with assistance from other workers. Work requires ability to stand, stoop, climb, bend and reach. Working Conditions: Works inside vans, rail cars, warehouses, igloos, etc., and in outside areas. Frequently exposed to unpleasant extremes of heat and cold and inclement weather conditions and to dirt, dust, grease and sand. Exposed to noise hazards, to irritation from dust and sawdust and to possible injuries. Must wear necessary protective and safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection and other equipment and clothing when required. Works in woodworking shop that is generally heated, lighted and ventilated. Exposed to noise hazards (hearing protection required), dirt and irritations from fumes, glues, bonding agents, paint, stains, varnish, sawdust, splinters, etc. Subject to possible accidental injury such as cuts, loss of fingers, broken bones, bruises and possible death from operating shop power equipment, from falls and falling lumber, tools, etc. Must wear necessary protective and safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes and other equipment and clothing.

Education
