About the Position: This position is located at Rhoades Dental Clinic, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Work hours are 0600 to 1530 Monday thru Friday.
In this position, you will take phone calls and visitors to the clinic, determine the nature of call or visit, obtain identifying information, and verify the patient's eligibility for treatment. Prepare and monitor schedules for dental care provider, clerks, impaneled Soldiers, and their chain of supervision. Schedules clinic appointments if available.
Maintain patient records in accordance with dental clinic procedures.
Maintain directories of agencies that interface with the clinic.
Schedule patients for appointments using an electronic system.
Utilize office automation tools such as computers, printers, copiers, facsimiles, and Microsoft Office to compose correspondence.
Respond to phone messages from patients to address concerns or refer to the appropriate office.
Answer routine questions from patients regarding access to care and other issues.
Verify eligibility for care by reviewing patient documents and identification.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience working with dental terminology and procedures, operating office equipment, such as a word processor and/or computer terminal; scheduling appointments; maintaining office files and/or records; AND composing correspondence using correct grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment.
