The National Gallery’s department of Internal Audit (DIA) strives to enhance and protect the National Gallery’s value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight. The incumbent adds value and improves operations by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve upon the effectiveness and efficiency of workflows, risk management, internal controls, and governance.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-511-13. GS-13: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-12 level, auditing performance of an organization for compliance with policies and procedures. Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-511-14. GS-14: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-13 level, leading others in auditing organizational performance. Your application and resume must demonstrate that you possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs). Do not provide a separate narrative written statement. Rather, you must show in your résumé how your past work experience demonstrates that you possess the KSAs identified below. If asked to do so, cite specific examples of employment or experience contained in your resume and describe how this experience has prepared you to successfully perform the duties of this position. Auditing – Knowledge of audit methods, principles, and regulations to objectively review the organizations business processes. Audit Design – Ability to design audits that provide effective data to be used for developing and implementing internal controls and processes. Advising – Skill in providing objective, expert, technical advice, and recommendations to leadership. Presenting – Ability to present information in a clear, informative, and professional manner to a wide variety of audiences. Education

Basic Requirements for Performance Auditors

  1. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

    1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
    2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
