The major function of this position is to exercise full supervisory responsibility for control over work operations involving subordinate workers and assisting with work during emergencies and tight timeline requirements. The incumbent performs duties in Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) Must have knowledge and experience in testing, diagnosis, preventative maintenance and the repairing of hospitals scooters, walkers and all wheelchairs to care/support wounded and disabled Veterans.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Supervisory Duties:
Responsible for supervising workers directly in accomplishing tasks related to electrical equipment repairs.
Coordinates and set priorities and time limits that result in the efficient and productive operation of the clinic and day-to-day operational management of the Electrical Equipment Repair Section, which includes scheduled repair, walk-in, and assembly clinics.
Serves as the facility subject area expert for Electrical Equipment Repair Section and provides technical and administrative supervision.
Will supervise three (or more) employees - WG-2854-09.
Perform supervisory duties which includes, Time Management, leave programs, Interviews and selects candidates, resolves employee conflicts, recommends promotions, special advancements for performance or achievement, conducts performance appraisal and evaluations, administers and enforce personnel management rules, regulations, procedures, counsels employees and initiates disciplinary action as needed, and adjusts workload and develops performance measures.
Non-Supervisory Duties:
Establishes work methods and procedures to test, diagnose and repair all electric/electronic components associated with motorized wheelchairs and electric-motorized 3 and 4-wheel carts that are out of factory warranty.
Repairs and maintains all components of an electric wheelchair and cart to include the supporting battery charger units.
Make repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, insulating and soldering defective wiring, controls, motors, power modules including intricate printed circuits, replacement of switches, relays, micro-chips, and fuses.
Assembles, energizes, adjusts and tests new power wheelchairs before issuance to severely handicapped patients and accomplishes necessary modifications for hand or chin controls, various supportive or restrictive devices such as straps, belts and postural supports for maximum benefit to the patient in the operations of the power wheelchair.
Ensure good working condition of all items of equipment and tools used in performance of these duties. Must ensure that adequate equipment and tools are on hand to assure the capability to repair all updated components of the power/manual wheelchairs and carts.
Responsible for initiating, developing and assigning storage areas and criteria for proper inventory management.
Sets the overall guidelines for warehousing techniques including space utilization, cleanliness, stock rotation and safety precautions. Responsible for purchasing and maintaining adequate inventory of components on hand to allow repairs to be accomplished without undue delays.
Work Schedule: Monday-Fridays 7:00am to 3:30pm

Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be required to perform maintenance, repairs, and cleaning which require bending and stooping for prolonged periods of time. Assist Veterans and others with loading and unloading wheelchairs delivered to the wheelchair repair shop for repairs. Lifts and carries lead-acid batteries. Often lifts and carries items weighing up to 40lbs.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in the wheelchair repair shop of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service which is well lit, heated, and ventilated. OSHA safety regulations and precautions (i.e. safety shoes, ear plugs, gloves, and safety goggles) must be followed regarding the equipment used and the shop environment. Environment may consist of, but not limited to dirt, grease, oil, fumes, and solvents. The incumbent
may be subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, and electrical shock.
