THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a CIVIL ENGINEER T32, Position Description Number PDD1551000 and is part of the AZ 161st Air Refueling Wing, National Guard.

Duties

This position is located at the 161st ARW in Phoenix, Arizona. May assume the duties of the Base Civil Engineer in his/her absence. Provides supervisory and technical assistance to the Base Civil Engineer in overseeing and managing the engineering shops and production control function. Provides technical support to all assigned sections. Provides guidance to these sections on standard and code requirements. Develops engineered solutions to technical problems, which are incapable of being resolved by subordinates. Typical problems require the need to perform extensive mathematical and technical calculations in engineering to include civil, mechanical, electrical, or general engineering as well as architecture. This position requires military membership. It is designated for National Guard officer incumbency only. The incumbent provides subordinate guidance and team leadership to Non-Dual Status, Dual Status, and State employees. Incumbent performs planning development necessary to accomplish architecture and engineering functions for programs essential to state Air National Guard daily operations, training, and readiness missions. Fosters an environment conducive to teaming among service providers and customers to meet state Air National Guard requirements. THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

Requirements

  • ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161st ARW.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver’s license.
  • Incumbent not possessing 32EXX AFSC will be required to obtain AFSC within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

Military Grades: 2nd Lt/O1 - Maj/O4 Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess or able to qualify for the AFSC 32E1G SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 60 months of experience performing professional work in planning, design and research in the field of architecture, including the design of buildings and other structures to fulfill esthetic and functional needs and the preparation of working or contract drawings and details of such designs. This may include: investigation and analysis of economic, social, physical, esthetic, and functional factors pertaining to architectural projects and building sites; preparation for contract architects of schematics, design, criteria, and other data; review of designs, working drawings, details, schedules and specifications prepared by contract architects; and development of plans for integrated projects involving the various buildings required for a complete operational facility.

Education

Must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in architecture; civil engineering or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
