This position is assigned to the Food & Beverage Division; Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) aboard Naval Station Pensacola, Florida, working primarily at the Cubi Bar Cafe located in the National Naval Aviation Museum, but may also be scheduled at other locations on NAS Pensacola, or Corry Station if needed. In addition to regularly occurring wait staff duties, this position generally leads a minimum of 4-8 wait staff as well.
Duties
Leads all wait staff on duty and coordinates dining room coverage to ensure that food service runs smoothly and customer service standards are adhered to. In addition, may provide instruction and guidance to food service workers that are present in the dining area.
Escorts customers to tables/seats, or designates such duties.
Answer questions about facilities and menus and makes suggestions on food and beverage selections.
Relays orders to kitchen and ensures that all food served is prepared as ordered and attractively arranged. May act as an expediter when a large volume of orders is placed.
Works closely with Catering Manager/Duty Manager to coordinate food and beverage needs for planned events. Helps to arrange required furniture, decorations, and personnel.
From arrival to departure, ensure guests are attended to promptly and addresses any customer service issues.
Sets up/breaks down the dining area and catering events, or oversee those carrying out the assigned tasks. Also responsible for directing the cleaning of the dining area, furniture, and equipment.
Handles cash and responsible for own change fund. Also responsible for handling credit card information in a confidential manner.
Responsible for training and leading new staff working in the dining area.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must successfully complete food handler’s and cash handling training on an annual basis.
- Must be able to work varied work schedules to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
Qualifications

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Skill to perform duties with several steps and use independent judgment in the performance of non-sequential tasks. Concentration is required to manage competing tasks, manage multiple orders/tables, and to process the constant flow of information and requests with competing and/or changing priorities. In depth understanding of common sanitation procedures and food handling to prevent contamination. Basic knowledge of food preparation and a comprehensive knowledge of all menus used in the facility.
Knowledge gained through pertinent job experience enabling the incumbent to be highly skilled at serving food and beverages, assist with food service and catering event set-up/breakdown, and demonstrate outstanding customer service skills.
Requires at least two (2) years of wait staff experience in a sit-down restaurant OR one (1) year as a shift lead in a directly related industry such as fast food or grocery store.
Knowledge, skill, and ability to lead and train wait staff and food service workers in proper ordering and serving techniques, customer service, and food handling procedures.
Ability to build and sustain a positive rapport with customers, co-workers, and management. Must be able to give and receive feedback regarding performance with tact and professionalism.
Ability and willingness to follow directions and carry out tasks with little to no supervision.
Demonstrate good decision-making skills when presented with customer service issues and managing conflicting tasks or information.
Ability to take orders and answer questions from customers, over the phone and in person.
Ability to handle cash, perform simple arithmetic and confidentially process credit card information.
Ability to set up/break down food stations and dining area.
Ability to read and write standard American English is required.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using standard American English is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS
Work involves moderate physical effort such as prolonged standing, walking, reaching, and light lifting. Must have the ability to lift and carry supplies or equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work areas are often noisy and congested. Workers are exposed to minor cuts, bruises, burns, and scalds. There is danger of slipping on wet floors. Some workers are exposed to extreme temperatures of hot kitchens and walk-in refrigerators.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
