About the Position: This position is located in the Logistic Readiness Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The incumbent would have responsibility for the classification, routing, computation of freight rates, preparation of required documentation, labeling and marking instructions on outbound world-wide shipments of commodities that are more difficult to classify.
Duties
You will classify rates and route Department of Defense (DoD) supplies and equipment to be shipped by truckload and/or carload (rail) requiring coordination with Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC).
Items classified include ammunition, ammunition components, explosives, general supplies, small arms weapons, parts and equipment, and medical, engineer, communication and quartermaster supplies.
Select the legally applicable mode of transportation and origin carrier, based on priority of shipment or required delivery date and most economically rate by various modes of transportation in accordance with carrier published tariffs.
Prepare routing request IAW AR 55-355/DOD 4500.9R Notifies shipping activity and order equipment upon receipt of routing instruction from SDDC.
Prepares and distributes commercial bill of lading (CBL) for movement of DOD supplies and equipment, via all codes/modes of service IAW applicable directives.
Perform pre-audits and post-audits of freight bills: certifies as necessary.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Is defined as one year performing work involved in the procurement of common carrier and other transportation service such as: 1) Determining appropriate classification for hazardous materials, and various supplies and equipment to be shipped; 2) Determining rates and routes for the movement of freight via different modes of transportation; and 3) Verifying freight charges and preparing transportation funding documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08)
