- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate SECRET security clearance for the position.
- Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
- Position designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration and will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

Qualifications

DUTIES:
As a MAIL ASSISTANT (T5055000), GS-0305-6, you will perform varied mail operations, which includes receiving, sorting, opening, controlling, routing, distribution, delivery, pick up and dispatching of mail. Position serves as the senior Mail Assistant for the state.
INDEFINITE:
This position is advertised against as a Temporary position based on LAPSE RATE funds. An applicant selected for this Temporary position will occupy a full-time position with a specific time limitation of not-to-exceed 2 year or may be terminated or extend at any time by management decision. A technician in this type of appointment does not work towards permanent tenure and can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. The permanent status of a current permanent employee will not change in the event of a selection for a position that is being announced as indefinite. If a current permanent employee is selected, the position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Change to Lower Grade. Employee serving under a temporary promotion may not retain a grade or rate of basic pay held during the temporary promotion. If a new hire is selected, the position will be filled as an Indefinite Appointment. Employee serving under a temporary promotion may not retain a grade or rate of basic pay held during the temporary promotion.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work demands long periods of standing, walking, bending, etc.; or recurring lifting of items weighing 50 pounds and only occasionally lifting of heavier items.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an office setting that has adequate light, heat, and ventilation.
QUALIFICATIONS:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience, education, or training which indicates the candidate performed progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Applicantmust possess at least ONE (1) year at the next lower grade level of GS-04 or the equivalent TWENTY-FOUR (12) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as serving as a mail distribution handler for incoming and outgoing distribution servicing; operating electronic postal processing equipment for outgoing first class, priority, certified, registered, bulk or postcard mail with federal indicia on a daily basis; shipping packages by other commercial vendors as required; capturing electronically accounting data for management reports on numerous accounts via data inputs per parcel mailed or shipped; maintaining database of all addressees necessary for day-to-day operations for bar coding of all outgoing mail; checking all outgoing mail to insure authority, proper postage based on contents and weight, etc.; employing various postal and common carrier software applications for bar coding of parcels, processing parcels, manifesting, tracking parcels and expenditure/weight/number accounting; maintaining business mail licenses with United States Postal Service (USPS); maintaining record of daily transactions PS Form 3602-A in accordance with USPS requirements; maintaining required postal files in accordance with appropriate records management requirements; processing and insuring proper packaging of all ingoing and outgoing classified mail including Secret; been responsible for following security procedures in accordance with current policies, procedures, and directives; reading mail that is undesignated and determines proper routing.
Education
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Completion of 2 academic years of education in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements for 3 months of specialized experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
Copy of official/student transcripts must be included in order to receive credit for education. Unofficial transcripts from internet or with alterations will not be considered. To receive credit for education the information must be included in the education section of the Resume.
