You will serve as a Supervisory Historian (Section Head) in the NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.
Duties
You will serve as an advisor to the Branch Head and Deputy Branch Head on historical programs, projects, and policies.
You will lead and direct production of naval historical products within Histories Branch OPNAV Support Section
You will serve as immediate supervisor of five historians, responsible for training, pay and leave administration, performance reviews, and personnel actions
You will evaluate employee performance, providing regular counseling as necessary to maintain a high level of productivity and ensure all work meets the highest standards of the historical profession.
You will assign, track, review, and provide responses to historical inquiries from senior Navy leadership and OPNAV directorates.
You will oversee the planning and execution of oral history interviews with Navy leaders and planners.
You will maintain liaison with Navy Staff offices in OPNAV, as well as other DOD historical offices and Armed Services historians, for the purposes of planning historical projects and delivering timely historical support.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Historian performing most or all of the following duties:
1) Planning, researching, and preparing historical products (e.g. studies, monographs, briefings, and booklets) that furnish detailed backgrounds and perspectives to current issues;
2) Organizing and leading historical research projects to ensure completion within established timeframes;
3) Delivering professional written responses to external and internal historical inquiries based on thorough research;
4) Communicating orally regarding historical matters (e.g. presenting briefs, participating in conferences, and exchanging professional views) to high-level colleagues and stakeholders;
5) Developing and supervising the development of written products on U.S. naval history of the highest quality that articulate, interpret, and explain highly complex material.

I have successfully completed a degree in history or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
I have a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
