This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Field Organizational, Southeast Area, in Athens, GA.
In this position you will, provide routine repair and maintenance of the facility including preventive maintenance and operation on the plumbing, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems.
Duties
Performs routine maintenance of the premises; carpentry; painting; motor vehicle operation; and welding.
Participates in painting such as spot painting on interior and exterior walls and the painting of repaired walls and ceilings.
Reads, interprets, use blueprints and diagrams, wiring diagrams.
Determines the proper kind and type of materials, tools, and equipment needed.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a, Maintenance Workerwithout more than normal supervision (Screen Out)). Physical Effort
Considerable physical effort is used when working especially in hard to reach places. Work requires bending, stooping, kneeling, standing for extended periods and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and using arms for long periods of time using hand tools, power machines, shop tools and equipment. Must frequently carry and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds (using equipment or hand trucks for the safe handling). Some crawling, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing on ladders is required for work both indoors and outdoors.
Working Conditions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Outside work often exposes the incumbent to adverse weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, and rain. The incumbent is subject to the usual hazards associated with conducting maintenance work. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, gas, grease, oil, noise, vibration, exposure to high voltage electricity, high pressure vessels, and hot and cold water and steam.
