About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, with headquarters in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.
This position will be filled on a permanent basis.
Duties
Advise the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) Commander on professional and medical technical aspects of conducting the MEPS medical examination program.
Provide technical medical supervision to, and evaluation of work accomplished by contract Fee Basis Providers (FBPs) and MEPS Medical Section NCOIC/supervisor conducting medical examinations in the MEPS.
Evaluate and determine military suitability by means of medical examination in order to determine approval/disapproval for entering the armed services.
Serve as Medical Director of the lab.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- One year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
- Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
- Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for GP 13 Physician:
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience/Training: Applicants must possess 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
