About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Dental Sterilization Technician. Assignments include decontamination; instrument preparation; sterilization; equipment maintenance and inventory; and issuance of sterile supplies.

Duties
Receive, disassemble and inspect dental supplies, instruments and equipment.
Select appropriate methods for sterilizing, balancing time constraints with possible detrimental effects of quicker methods.
Remove gross contamination, soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids by utilizing both manual and mechanical cleaning methods, micro-biotical processes, and work practice controls
Work the washer and sterilizer in order to provide instruments to the dental assistant.
Conduct periodic inventory supplies, instruments and equipment and determine reordering needs.
Responsible that instruments are sterilized and accounted for.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI).
- Incumbent will be required to receive seasonal influenza immunization.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- Must be certified as a radiographer and have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in 42 CFR Part 75.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- Ear protection may be required.
- Uniform will be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes sterilizing instruments and equipment; testing and storing equipment to prevent contamination; assisting in dental procedures and providing treatment; identifying specialized instruments, material and dental techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
