Job opening: MASONRY WORKER

Salary: $28 - 33 per hour

You will serve as a MASONRY WORKER in the PRODUCTION DIVISION, FS BR-STRUCTURAL/FINISHING SHOP, PWD GREAT LAKES, of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will use tools and equipment to cut and shape brick and block to complete corners. You will mix and spread mortar, lays brick or block in straight horizontal rows and in circular and tapered course, and finishes joints. You will repair, alter, and construct various cement and concrete surfaces and structures (i.e. headwalls partitions, foundations, steps, floors, walks etc). You will lay cement, cinder block and terra cotta in foundations, steps, walls, etc.

Requirements

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Lay a variety of brick, block, and stone to repair items such as partitions, walls, walkways, and fireplaces; 2) Work from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches to complete assigned tasks; 3) Use a variety of hand and power tools such as trowels, mixers, chisels, hammers, crowbars, brick or skill saws, axes, and picks to remove or prepare walls for repair and cut and shape brick and stone; and 4) Mix mortar to ensure the proper proportions of sand, lime, cement, and water are used to obtain desired consistency.
