This position, located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System, serves as a Maintenance Mechanic (Commercial-Carpenter) in support of the assigned tasks and duties of the In-House Construction Section/Engineering Service.
Duties
Major Duties of this position include but are not limited to...
Installs and repairs dry wall per commercial-carpenter methods and requirements
Determines the methods, techniques, devices, and materials for commercial-carpenter trade work
Responsible for ensuring requirements for commercial-carpentry tradesmen are met and maintained throughout projects; must have proper knowledge of materials, methods, devices, and techniques
Erects smoke and fire walls to NFPA specifications and constructs dust barriers to meet the OSHA regulations; often works in radiological areas of the hospital and installs lead-lined sheetrock, glass, windows frames, doors and door frames to meet all federal regulations and site inspection from in-house physicist
Keeps tools clean, sharp and in the proper working condition; reports unsafe tools to immediate supervisor
Work Schedule: Monday -Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm

Physical Requirements: Work requires strenuous exertion in building, removing or replacing walls, floors; requires standing for long periods of time, working in heated or cold areas. Incumbent must work on ladders, scaffolds, and roofs while sitting, kneeling, standing or stooping in an awkward position. Must handle heavy tools at arm's length and overhead at times; Must unload heavy and bulky materials such as plywood, wallboard, hardboard, and other types of lumber and materials from trucks and place on storage racks; must work throughout all areas of the Medical Center, and at times, is required to go in areas such as boiler/mechanical rooms, pipe chases, roofs, attics, basement, etc., which may require kneeling, bending, stooping, crawling, etc.; frequently handles objects weighing 10 to 90 pounds.
