This position is located in the Radiology Service and could be assigned to various sections of the Radiology Service. Incumbent may be responsible to work any combination of these areas on any given day. Primary duty is assisting Magnetic Imaging Resonance (MRI) Technologists with patient care. Other duties include; preparing exam rooms, bringing inpatients to and from the Nursing Units/ER/wards, and assisting medical personnel.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Answering and directing phone calls.
Maintaining files and records.
Performing reception duties by assisting visitors to the office.
Using a computer to perform administrative duties.
Providing training to new personnel on clinical and administrative duties.
Using techniques to appropriately de-escalate disruptive patients.
Observing patients and reporting changes in condition (deviation in color, pulse, respiration, temperature, and blood pressure).
Positioning patients.
Interviewing patients to document complaint, medical history, and personnel information.
Taking and recording vital signs.
Documenting electronic patient medical records.
Setting up patient examination rooms while adhering to infection control procedures.

GS-5 Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individual Occupational Requirements - Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

Education and Training: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
Specialized Experience is required in addition to the Individual Occupational Requirement
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience GS-5: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience is Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Preparing rooms for procedures (this may include cleaning the procedure table, minor room cleanups, putting a clean sheet on the table, and getting supplies for the next procedure). Transporting patients, charts, and specimens to and from Procedure areas. Giving patients basic explanation of the procedures, answering questions about the procedures, and helping put them at ease (as well as providing the patient with post-procedure information). Answering telephones and entering patient data/information into the hospital computer system accurately while maintaining patient confidentiality as outlined by HIPPA standards.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience.

Physical Requirements: The work requires continuous lifting, pushing, moving, bending, walking, standing, and transporting patients to and from their beds on a wheelchair or gurney. There will frequently be times when the Clinical Assistant will assist the Nurses on the Unit or the Technologist in moving and transporting a heavy patient that is unable to move on their own. Work may also require lifting or moving imaging equipment, and patient monitors as needed.
