This position is located with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, DOL, Base San Juan, MWR Department in San Juan, PR.

Duties

You will serve as the senior Educational Specialist in a Coast Guard Child Development Center (CDC).  You will perform a variety of daily operational administrative and child development related duties in support of the center and the Director.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: (Transcripts required if using education). 1.  Degree:  that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR 2.  Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. Additional Requirements:  1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 is required; OR 1 year of graduate-level education; ORsuperior academic achievement (S.A.A.); OR  Combination of qualifying education and specialized experience S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society. GS-07: Qualifying experience for the GS-07 level includes one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the federal sector. Examples of specialized experience include Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are:  -Working in group child care or other work that demonstrated the ability to assist in the operation of a child care center. -Following established childcare policies and procedures. -Providing input to the development and implementation of child development programs. -Teaching age appropriate curriculum for children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years. -Assisting with a childcare food program.
