About the Position: Serves as a Guidance Counselor with the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Seattle, assigned to the Seattle Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).

Duties

Perform enlistment processing for Army and Army Reserve applicants. Review applicant records in order to make necessary updates. Follow regulations, policies, and guidance to ensure proper assignment of enlistees. Provide information about enlistment processes to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is dependent on successful completion of the United States Army/Army Reserve Guidance Counselor Operations Course (GCOC), and must be completed w/in 180 days of employment. Previous completion will be honored.
  • Work hours are sporadic based on number of applicants to process for initial reservation processing or shipping to training/assignment. Hours of operation is also augmented by over 20 Saturday processing days and 1 extended hour per MEPS per month.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the application of military human resource policies and procedures to perform duties such as; 1) reviewing source documents to ensure completeness and accuracy, 2) determine eligibility and qualifications, 3) operate automated information systems to input, verify, and share data, and 4) interview/counsel applicants regarding training opportunities and placement. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: AccountabilityManages and Organizes InformationMilitaryOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
