Serves as the Program Support Assistant for Salt Lake City (SLC) Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Fisher House. Works closely with the Fisher House Manager and Assistant. Assisting with the day-to-day operations of the independent 20 bedroom Fisher House. Has the critical task of being one of the first VAMC personnel to interact with the Fisher House guests and thus sets the tone for the remainder of their stay. Customer service the guests receive is important how facility is perceived.

Duties

Major Duties, but not limited to: Assists in maintaining daily functions of the Fisher House. Determines eligibility for family members/guests and coordinates with appropriate others. Manages high volume calls from Veterans, families, and clinical staff. Uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and the Veterans health information and Technology Architecture (VistA) to update Veteran demographic information to manage guests. Resolves minor issues related guests' stay including complaints. Monitors the Fisher House when working scheduled hours alone. Uses word processing software to execute several office automations functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files. Interacts with various customers, including, Veterans, family members, clinical support staff, and volunteers. Communicates with internal and external customers using sound interpersonal skills while protecting sensitive information. May assist with timekeeping for Social Work Service. Maintains and orders supplies for the Fisher House. Work Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/28/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing administrative support Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and information Processing documents and reports Establishing, updating, and maintaining office files and records Performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics Answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages and Organizes InformationProblem Solving Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The duties and responsibilities of the position require mobility between various offices and clinics within the medical center and various other outbuildings. The incumbent must be composed at all times while providing customer service to veterans and their families during their emotional and/or physical stress. Average physical ability, dexterity, and strength are required to perform the work. This includes preparation for programs, occasional moving/lifting of equipment, (100 cup coffee pot, boxes of donated items, up to 40 pounds etc.), assisting guests with luggage. Although some of the work is sedentary, the employee will be walking, standing, bending, and carrying some light to heavy items, as well as driving a golf cart if needing to take guests to and from the medical center.
