About the Position: This position is located at the Gavins Point Project Office. Gavins Point Dam and Lewis and Clark Lake, located on the Missouri River five miles upstream of Yankton, South Dakota, has grown into one of the most popular recreation areas in the upper Midwest. Recreation opportunities around the lake include camping, fishing, hunting, boating, sailing, biking, hiking, and bird-watching. Duties

Administers the technical aspects of the Operations or Maintenance of the hydroelectric power plant, switchyard, Project power facilities, and associated structures. Ensures that the power plant and its associated equipment and structures operate in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) whether controlled locally or remotely through the PPCS. Coordinates and recommends changes to the Operator’s work schedules. Directs training activities in accordance with the Corps-wide power plant personnel training program; oversees assignments of trainees and recommends improvements in the training program. Determines whether contractor performed work meets standards of adequacy necessary for authorization of payment. Recommends to the Maintenance and Operations Manager the need for appropriate repairs, modifications, or equipment replacement. Reviews design packages and evaluate the construction and alteration of projects from the standpoint of constructability and maintainability of facilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a state issued driver’s license.
  • Incumbent may be required to lift 25-35 lbs.
  • Must complete a one-year supervisory probationary period to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Prioritizing work by providing direction to personnel on the proper utilization of equipment or time frames of equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
