This position is located at Office of the Chief Information Officer, Infrastructure Operations. This is a full-time telework position. You will not need to report to the office regularly but are expected to reside within the local commuting area.

Duties

As an IT Specialist (Op Sys / Sys Admn), you will: Technical Management Provide on call support for applications requiring availability beyond normal business hours. Provide technical support for the integration of new applications, COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) software, and implementation of new common services, as well as for large scale and enterprise projects; monitors performance of operating systems and support systems. General Systems Management Manage and support operating systems such as Windows, Unix, Linux, Solaris, and solution hosting and end user computing Virtual Desktop infrastructure environments. Manage and support IT hardware such as Cisco UCS systems, Nutanix hyper-converged solutions, and traditional stand-alone server hardware (such as HP, Dell, Sun, IBM server/blade chassis). Manage and support enterprise storage systems such as NetApp storage hosted in both the EU and Large Office network environments in multiple locations throughout the country including large offices and data centers. Perform management and support of enterprise storage systems supporting application consumers such as VMware ESX, Commvault, Microsoft SQL Server, end user CIFS shares, and FSA FileNet services. Manage and support enterprise storage systems consumed by CEC VMware virtualization environments, and supporting services including infrastructure servers, DFS systems, file and print servers, SQL servers, SharePoint, and a wide variety of application servers. Server Maintenance Management Maintain server health by performing or supporting preventative and break/fix maintenance as necessary. Utilize Service Desk tickets to document any maintenance work performed, configuration changes implemented, and to list any parts removed/replaced. Follow IOD Alert and Dashboard SOPs to ensure infrastructure outages are properly posted. Perform server infrastructure administration including configuration and policies. Software Administration Install, maintain, and administer hosting infrastructure commercial off the shelf (COTS) software such as operating systems; frontend software, middle tier software; enabling software; services; utilities; monitoring software; code repository software, DevOps based operations automation services (Puppet, GitLab, Mulesoft, Chocolatey) etc. Assist the database group with installing and managing database software as requested. Utilize CEC monitoring tools (e.g., SCOM, SCCM, SolarWinds, Cascade, and Splunk ITSI) for proactive monitoring of applications and infrastructure systems. Utilize automated notification functions to provide quick response to incidents, especially during after-hours on-call support.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience for the GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility at the GS-11 level in the Federal service or equivalent, which have equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience performing IT System administration work that involves enterprise application level planning and coordinating the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of database, virtual infrastructure, and enterprise level storage systems, in a hyper-converged environment, in order to ensure availability, functionality, and recoverability to meet operational readiness and also current and future business needs. Examples of such experience could include: Supporting and managing virtualization hypervisor platforms to provide day-to-day readiness. (examples of these platforms include, but not limited to, VMWare ESXi; Nutanix Acropolis Hypvervisor and Microsoft Hyper-V.) Supporting and managing hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platforms for hardware support. (examples of these include, but not limited to, Nutanix (Super-Micro) and Cisco Hyperflex.) Supporting and managing Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS) for virtualization infrastructure, including the B series and C series hardware and the associated fabric interconnect (FI) systems. Demonstrating systems administration on Windows servers/workstations with experience in IT disciplines (such as system management techniques, change management methodologies and procedures, and operational best practices in an IT environment); Supporting incident resolution (examples include using service desk ticketing tools, troubleshooting and resolving problems directly and when needed, assisting and providing direction to junior support staff for escalated issues); Experience with data protection and back up operations (such as systems infrastructure including desktop and server virtualization, nationwide backup, mass storage, VoIP, collaboration services, mobile device management, file/print with distributed file systems, and various security operations/identity access functions). In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
