This position is a Laundry Equipment Operator in the Medical Center to perform a wide variety of standard, related practices and procedures to maintain the availability of linens and uniforms in a visually clean and aseptic condition.

Duties

Operates various types of automated washroom and related equipment; uses chemicals, cleaning materials, and techniques to include loading, unloading and performing, authorized, minor maintenance adjustments. Operates within standard healthcare laundry practices and procedures while participating in the overall adherence to sanitation, safety and infection control program requirements. Operates equipment safely and properly as specified in section training and manufacturers' operation manuals. Sorts soiled linens into designated classification categories either manually or by operating soiled sorting system to maintain continual availability of linens to support further processing and distribution. Makes necessary and authorized minor adjustments to equipment; reports needed equipment repairs to the Supervisor or Work Leader. Collects soiled uniforms and scrubs and delivers to designated area for processing. Unloads soiled linen from carts and empties bags onto a conveyor belt system. Participates in linen inventories. Assures that lint and foreign objects are removed from equipment and disposed of in accordance with section policies. Assures that daily, weekly and monthly inspection reports of equipment are maintained in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations. Assures daily, weekly and monthly cleaning of assigned area in accordance with section policies. Loads linen carts onto automated delivery bases and programs computer system for dispatch to appropriate location following established schedules. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/27/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements: Most tasks require varying degrees of muscular effort and hand-to-eye coordination to assure safe and efficient use of equipment and supplies. Work requires frequent bending or stooping, prolonged walking, and standing. Frequently lifts laundry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds. Incumbent is subjected to prolonged walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. Visual acuity is essential to determine acceptability of finished process, stained items, classifications of linen and fabrics and appropriate processing methods. Hand-to-eye coordination is required. Working Conditions: Incumbent generally works in a well-ventilated, air-conditioned, and well-lighted area. The area has automated industrial equipment and associated noises. He/She follows predetermined work procedures but must determine independently when a job is done well. However, he/she is constantly exposed to potential contamination and unclean surroundings and must be able to understand and follow procedures.
