Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for victim assistance services. Typical work assignments will include: Developing and implementing specific program activities which promote compliance with federal tribal victim laws and guidelines. Establishing and maintaining communication between government law enforcement agencies, social service groups and other organizations that promote the rights of tribal victims. Providing direct services to crime victims relative to district legal activities. Analyzing District tribal programs and audiences, identifying the informational needs of victims specifically in Indian Country. Providing and preparing victims with information regarding the criminal justice system, courtroom orientations, courtroom appearances and/or contacts with legal representatives. Obtaining services and assistance for tribal victims through specific federal programs and funds specific to Indian Country. Advocating on behalf of tribal victims regarding issues and problems caused by crime and providing information with crisis intervention services and programs, case management, and direct services to victims. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet ONE of the following: GS-9: Specialized Experience: At least one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: advocating on behalf of crime victims; providing information to victims regarding status of cases and results of trials; providing in court support during hearings; and obtaining services and assistance for victims. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Sociology): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. GS-11: Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: advocating on behalf of crime victims; providing information to victims regarding status of cases and results of trials; providing in court support during hearings; obtaining services and assistance for victims; analyzing victim communication needs; and developing and administering a comprehensive tribal victim program. OR Education: Applicants may also qualify based on education. To qualify for the GS-9 level, applicants must have one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Sociology): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
