This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Operate Industrial washing and drying machines and sort, treat, load, unload, and repair clothing items.
Duties
Determine proper machine settings based on degree of soil, size of load, and fabric type.
Perform physical receipt, storage, inventory, and issuance of clothing and equipment to employees.
Fabricate non-complex textile articles
Make alterations to coveralls according to markings indicated by fitter.
Maintain daily record of lot number, machine number, and start/stop time of each wash.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to be physically able to wear protective personal equipment to include M40A1 Protective Mask to perform assigned duties and pickup/deliver PPE and soft clothing.
- May be required to participate in Chemical Accident/Incident Response and Assistance (CAIRA)situations and serve on teams dedicated to controlling CAIRA situations after being trained for the duty involved.
- This position requires a pre-appointment and annual physical for the duration of appointment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid driver's license.
- This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
- This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laundry Machine Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. Performing common Laundry Machine Operations such as operate few industrial washing and drying machines; determine the appropriate machine settings based on garment; balance laundry in drum for even distribution; and repair non-complex textile articles using industrial sewing machine. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Heavy physical effort is required to pull wet laundry from the washer and place on lift jack, push heavy carts of soiled laundry, and lift bundles weighing 50 pounds or more. Stock Room work is performed on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending and work in gin a tiring and uncomfortable position. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Sits for long periods of time with continual movement of hands, arms and fingers in placing items in position and sewing. Often handles pieces of fabric or articles of clothing that are consistently heavy and bulky.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Laundry is noisy and usually hot and humid. Worker is exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts or falls on wet floors in the working area. Supply work is performed primarily inside in well lighted, adequately ventilated areas and warehouses. Work is occasionally dirty and greasy, may be exposed to explosive contaminants. Operates vehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment. May be exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
