About the Position: Serve as as the Administrative Support Specialist and Executive Assistant responsible for administrative support to the Chief of Staff (COS), performing a variety of duties designed to relieve the COS and management staff of as much administrative detail as possible and contributes to effective public relations with a very wide circle of high-level military and civilian government officials, and others whose interests and activities are concerned with the AMC mission.
Duties
Plans, coordinates, analyzes, and evaluates administrative missions and operations for the Army Materiel Command (AMC) Office of the Chief of Staff (COS).
Conducts qualitative analysis of administrative processes, work operations, and organization structure and resolves procedural problems affecting organization efficiency by developing administrative procedures to improve administrative functions.
Anticipates needs of superior for material for special conferences and meetings; conducts research for and/or obtains information, documents, and data from other elements of the Command Group and/AMC staff.
Exercises broad discretionary powers in replying to personal, semi-official, and official correspondence involving fundamental matters of policy, incorporating the appropriate attitude, phraseology, and interpretation of policy of the Chief of Staff.
Utilize a wide range of office automation software (including advanced word processing features similar to desktop publishing; graphics; databases; and spreadsheets) in the accomplishment of day-to-day duties.
Screens all incoming telephone calls for the COS, AMC emanating from high level officials within all military departments, and officials from other governmental departments, Members of Congress, Embassy Officials, representatives, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Advising on administrative processes, procedures, and matters applying a thorough comprehensive knowledge of an organization's mission; (2) Preparing, monitoring, proofreading, and reviewing official correspondences for management ensuring their responses are correct; (3) Maintaining command office calendar of meetings/appointments; (4) Managing the travel system for the staff by preparing travel orders and arrangements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Management, Business Administration, or any other fields of study related to this position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
