The Interior Designer will be assigned to Engineering Service, Project Planning Section at the VA Medical Center in Hines, IL. The position supports the Senior Interior Designer with project planning in the daily activities and coordination of the facility Interior Design program.

Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Interior Designer position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You must have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least thirty (30) semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design OR passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. One (1) year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, eighteen (18) semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one (1) year of full-time study requirement. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: You must have an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements for an Interior Designer. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: This is a very active position requiring dexterity related to drafting, writing, inspecting, visiting project sites etc. Incumbent works throughout all areas of the facility including patient rooms, clinics, waiting areas and offices. Precautionary measures should be observed in infectious areas. During work site inspections, employee may encounter demolition and construction, noise, dust, fumes, potentially unstable elements and the full range of environments present in a dynamic, active, exceeding large hospital complex.
