About the Position: Serve as a Physical Security Specialist with the Fort Carson, Directorate of Emergency Services located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of policies and development of procedures for the physical protection of Installation Management Command (MCOM) and tenant activities facilities.
Duties
Performs as a Physical Security Specialist for an IMCOM Installation and is responsible for physical security plans, procedures and inspections as well as key control.
The specialist provides guidance, recommendations, and assistance to Commanders, supervisors and employees concerning security systems, physical protection devices, Visitor Control Center and personnel access controls.
Advises the Chief, Physical Security Division in the Directorate of Emergency Services on all physical security matters.
Conducts routine physical security inspections and survey's, both announced and unannounced, detecting deficiencies and violations of directives
Inspect, monitor and coordinate maintenance and repair of Electronic Security Systems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance..
- Incumbents may be required to work other than normal duty hours that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license.
- Incumbent must have successfully completed the Physical Security Course at (USAMPS).
- This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13.

- Position may require TDY travel up to 20%.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Developing, managing and executing installation level physical security plans, procedures and inspections as well as key control; AND 2) providing guidance, recommendations, and assistance to supervisors and employees concerning security systems, physical protection devices, Visitor Control Center and personnel access controls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree as a PhD in Engineering - Concentration in Security, Doctorate of Global Security or Doctorate in Homeland Security, etc. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
