The Incumbent serves as Laborer within the Transportation and Grounds Section/Building Maintenance and Operations Divisions, which is aligned under Engineering Service/Facility Management Service Line performing a variety of duties in support of the Grounds Maintenance Unit.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to:
Operates heavy equipment such as riding mowers and tractors, push mowers, chainsaws, edger's, trimmers, weed eaters, pressure washers, blowers, hand and power garden tools.
Operates power mowers to cut grass on a variety of landscape grades.
Responsible for keeping grounds free of debris.
Lifts and mixes asphalt premix to repair roadways and walkways.
Responsible for pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads of cement, soil, asphalt etc.
Uses picks and shovels to dig ditches and trenches.
Distributes mulch and pulls weeds from flowerbeds.
Assists loading and unloading on-station trucks as needed.
Monitors drains on the grounds to keep free of debris.
Checks fluids, blades, etc. on equipment to ensure safe operation before use.
Responsible for cleaning equipment after each use.
Responsible for securing vehicles and equipment when unattended.
Perform work according to established safety guidelines, requirements, and fire regulations.
Ability to operate, control, and clean heavy power equipment.
Completes assignments involving several tasks which require remembering sequences and directions.
Exerts heavy physical effort in performing tasks such as lifting and moving by pushing or pulling objects.
Requires walking, standing, bending, and stooping for long periods of time.
Responsible for the frequent use of ladders used for pruning and trimming larger shrubbery and bushes.
Required to lift large bags and bales of materials.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Works outside in all types of weather.
Tools, equipment, and tasks involved frequently requires special care to avoid serious injury.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm

Frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling. Works outside in all types of weather. Inside areas may be dusty, drafty, and noisy.
