The Utility Systems Repairer/Operator at this level involves recognizing the cause of faulty equipment and making repairs on large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration functions in the Albany VA Medical Center.

Duties

Operates Utility System(s)Work involves the full range of duties required to operate one or more utility system(s). Operates systems of extremely large capacity and flexibility, having a large number of components, controls, gauges, and auxiliary equipment to coordinate and monitor, which service a variety of specialized work activities that generate diverse requirements. Checks temperature sensing points in the buildings; adjusts controls; starts, regulates, and stops equipment; and resets temperature and air/steam controls for proper humidity. Takes and records gauge readings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repairer-Operator/PD05589A Physical Requirements: The grade 10 utility systems repairer/operator is required to work in confined areas in and around air handlers, pumps, motors, and refrigeration machinery. The work requires moderate to strenuous effort and long periods of walking, climbing, crouching and bending. Physical effort may include squeezing into and crawling through tight spaces for a limited amount of time as well as working on top of and climbing on equipment. Workers frequently carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. unassisted, occasionally items weighing over 40 lbs with the assistance of weight lifting equipment and or other workers.

Qualifications

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
