About the Position: The position is located in Kansas City, MO as the Education Services Specialist (ESS) serving as liaison, advisor, and advocate for Army recruiting activities. The ESS works with school administrators to understand how the Army fits as a career opportunity for students using the ASVAB Career Exploration Program as one of many tools to help students and educators see paths to service that fit best for applicants to the US Army and Army Reserve.

Duties

The Education Services Specialist (ESS) is the principal advisor to the Commander on education matters, which have impact on the battalion (BN) mission. Serves as a liaison between the recruiting field force and the education community. Serves as the BNs functional expert on all matters relating to education enlistment eligibility. Develops, coordinates, and implements training/marketing strategies to communicate to high schools and colleges the advantages of ConAP. Plans, manages and coordinates the BN's community center of influence program Serves as a training consultant and resource for the assigned recruiting BN. Serves as the education advisor for soldiers assigned to the BN to ensure their continued personal and professional educational development.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to acquire and maintain a valid State and/or Federal Government Driver's license.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time and may require occasional travel on the weekend when needed.

(1)Tests and Measurement: Study of the selection, evaluation, administration, scoring, interpretations, and uses of group and individual aptitude, proficiency, interest, and other tests; (2) Adult education: Study of the adult as a learner, teaching-learning theories for adults, models and procedures for planning, designing, managing, and evaluating adult learning activities; (3) Educational program administration: Study of the foundation and methods in organizing for adult and continuing education programs; (4) Curriculum development or design: Study of the principles and techniques for development of curricula for adult or vocational education programs; (5) Teaching methods: Study of teaching strategies and learning styles of the adult learner. 6.Guidance and counseling: Study of the purposes and methods in counseling and guidance, the role of the counselor in various settings, approaches to counseling, and the uses of tests in the counseling situation; (7) Career planning: Study of career development, learning activities, systems, approaches, program coordination, use of educational and community resources, and vocational counseling systems; OR (8) Occupational information: Study of theories of occupational choice and vocational development and their application to the guidance process. Identification and utilization of various types of occupational information and resources. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position, you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing marketing plans for student testing programs; evaluating operations in the student testing programs to suggest improvements; and coordinating promotional activities to improve state and/or regional marketing efforts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
