This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

The position is an Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist in Imaging service's Mammography section. The incumbent perform independent technical work operating Mammographic, Tomosynthesis, Stereotactic, Ultrasound and DEXA equipment.Duties include: Performing a full range of diagnostic and mammographic imaging, including breast ultrasound. Operating Mammographic, Tomosynthesis, Stereotactic, Ultrasound and DEXA equipment as part of the diagnostic plan for patient care. Ensuring image quality, patient positioning, compression, image acquisition, image processing, and infection control are within guidelines. Ensuring all Quality Control procedures are completed in a timely manner, and in accordance with all FDA and MQSA guidelines. Ensuring all Quality Control data is recorded, tracked and maintained in accordance with VHA Handbook 1102.03, FDA and MQSA policies and procedures. Performing assigned QC / QA tasks in a professional, traceable and verifiable manner. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d). Preferred Experience:· Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified.· Ability to provide coverage on any shift and provide On-Call coverage, at the needs of the department.· At least five (5) year of experience in Mammography and ten (10) years in General Diagnostic Radiography.· Bachelor's of Science [B.S.] degree. Grade Determinations: At least one (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) directly related to Mammography and Tomosynthesis imaging that demonstrates clinical competencies needed to provide services. This includes full experience with all aspects of BIRADS and related regulatory requirements In addition to one year of experience, The candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): i. *Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures ii. Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers iii. *Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure iv. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography v. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.vi. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients. References: VA Handbook 5005/119 PART II APPENDIX G25.The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-09. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-09. Physical Requirements: Candidates should have sufficient motor function so that they are able to execute movements required to provide general care and examination to patients in all diagnostic imaging settings. In general, this requires the candidate to be able to regularly lift at least 25-100 pounds (in assisting in patient transfers);stand/walk 6-7 hours per 8 hour shift with prolonged standing; bend, stoop and twist repetitively, lasting several minutes each time, carry up to 20 pounds, move carts weighing 200 lbs, and reach a height of 6 feet to activate emergency call buttons and reach equipment. Fine and gross motor movement of the upper extremities is required in all of the above.
