This position is located at the Intramural Sports which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of grounds and external maintenance functions.
Duties
Performs ground and external maintenance to include: general care of grounds, picking up trash and debris, planting and transplanting as needed, ground cover, flowers, shrubs and trees.
Controls and prevents pests, vertebrate (rodents, birds, etc) and plant pests such as weeds, plant diseases and fungi.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of 32212 at time of applying.
- Must be able to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling and climbing.
- Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of up to 45 pounds. Assisted lifting, carrying or moving up to 100 pounds may be required.

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
A general knowledge of grounds keeping tasks and procedures.
Ability to detect plant diseases and/or unusual plant growth.
Ability to use a variety of hand and power operated tools, such as seeders, spreaders, edger's, hedge trimmers, pruning shears and sprayers.
Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safety is required.
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with management, staff and customers.
Must be able to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling and climbing.
Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of up to 45 pounds. Assisted lifting, carrying or moving up to 100 pounds may be required.
Work is primarily performed outdoors and incumbent is subject to hot/cold weather, sun, rain, dirt, mud and sometimes to chemical sprays and dusts. Personal Protective Equipment is provided.
To verify fitness for duty, a complete physical examination at a military medical facility may be required.
Must have a favorable national background check result for continued employment.
